Setting Out Engineer

We’re currently seeking an Experienced Setting Out Engineer to join a leading infrastructure and utilities contractor delivering critical civil engineering projects across Ireland. This is an excellent opportunity for a site-based engineer who thrives on precision, autonomy, and being hands-on with major infrastructure works.

The Role:
As a key part of the site delivery team, you will take responsibility for all setting out and surveying duties on active construction sites. Your role will include:

• Setting out for roads, foundations, utilities, drainage, ducting, and structural elements using GPS, Total Station, and AutoCAD.
• Interpreting technical drawings and project specifications, ensuring construction aligns with approved plans and tolerances.
• Conducting as-built surveys, recording progress, and producing accurate site records and reports.
• Collaborating closely with site managers, engineers, and subcontractors, offering technical support and ensuring efficient sequencing of work.
• Monitoring site levels and alignments, ensuring work is delivered within tight tolerances and deadlines.
• Maintaining equipment and calibrating instruments, ensuring reliability and accuracy at all times.
• Contributing to quality assurance and control, including checking materials, verifying dimensions, and completing inspection records.
• Supporting health and safety compliance, participating in site briefings, and reporting any concerns or incidents.

Requirements:

• 3+ years of experience in a setting out or site engineering role.
• Strong working knowledge of GPS, Total Station (e.g. Leica/Trimble), and AutoCAD.
• Background in civil engineering projects such as roads, utilities, housing, or large-scale infrastructure.
• Relevant qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction, or Surveying.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently on-site.
• Full driving licence and willingness to travel to various sites.
