A leading engineering consultancy is seeking a
Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead and deliver complex mechanical design projects across the
Energy and Industrial sectors throughout the
EMEA region.
This is a senior-level opportunity for an engineer who thrives in
high-spec, regulated environments such as
manufacturing, life sciences, laboratories, pharmaceutical, food production, and industrial facilities. You’ll take ownership of projects across the full lifecycle from early concept through detailed design and construction support while mentoring engineers and maintaining strong client relationships.
What You’ll Be Doing
In this role, you’ll operate as a technical lead delivering mechanical systems for mission-critical and process-driven environments. Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading mechanical services design from concept to handover across industrial and energy projects
- Designing and specifying HVAC, heating/cooling, ventilation, utilities, and specialist systems
- Delivering designs for regulated environments including ATEX zones, cleanrooms, laboratories, and process-led facilities
- Supporting specialist systems design including gas detection and safety-critical services
- Ensuring compliance with CIBSE, ASHRAE, BS, IS and EN standards, along with relevant regulatory and safety requirements
- Producing detailed tender packages, technical reports, analysis and recommendations
- Carrying out ongoing design reviews, constructability checks, and installation quality oversight
- Collaborating directly with clients and multidisciplinary design teams to define scope and develop technical solutions
- Managing project delivery with minimal management input and taking full technical ownership
- Mentoring junior and intermediate engineers, reviewing deliverables and ensuring QA standards prior to issue
What You’ll Bring - Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline)
- 7+ years’ experience delivering mechanical design projects in regulated environments such as:
- Industrial / manufacturing
- Pharmaceutical / medical devices
- Life sciences / laboratories
- Food & beverage production
- Healthcare or commercial (where relevant)
- Strong knowledge of mechanical building systems in process-driven facilities
- Working understanding of ATEX directives and hazardous environment design
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office
- Experience with analysis/simulation tools is advantageous
- Chartered Engineer status is beneficial (but not essential)
- Must be based in Ireland
