Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Our client is an established engineering and energy services organisation supporting major manufacturing and industrial clients across Ireland. Their project team delivers complex mechanical and utilities design work across sectors such as pharma, food & beverage, and advanced manufacturing - and looking for an experienced engineer who can take ownership of detailed design packages and strengthen their in-house capability.
  
The Role
You will join a project-focused mechanical and energy engineering team (currently five people) and play a key role in delivering full detailed design for industrial utilities and energy-related projects. Concept work is already covered internally — this role requires a senior engineer who can take concepts and develop them into tender-ready technical packages.
  
Key Responsibilities

• Lead the detailed mechanical design of industrial utility systems including steam, hot/chilled water, refrigeration, HVAC, compressed air, and heat recovery.
• Produce and review P&IDs, layouts, mechanical drawings, calculations, equipment sizing and technical specifications.
• Develop tender documentation and support procurement, vendor evaluations and design reviews.
• Work closely with project managers, energy specialists, and internal concept designers to fully engineer solutions for complex manufacturing environments
• Provide technical input during installation, site visits, commissioning support, and resolution of RFIs.
• Collaborate with clients in highly regulated, safety-critical industrial settings.

  
What They’re Looking For

• Experience in industrial mechanical design – ideally pharma, food, medical device, or large process/manufacturing.
• Strong competence in detailed design: pipe sizing, pump selection, thermal calculations, utilities design, and mechanical specifications.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, and producing full design packages.
• Experience turning concept designs into build-ready engineering outputs.
• Comfortable engaging with contractors, vendors, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Someone grounded, practical, and able to work independently.
