Are you a passionate and experienced ecologist looking to take the next step in your career? We’re partnering with a highly respected multidisciplinary consultancy to appoint a Senior Ecologist or Senior Project Ecologist to join their growing ecology team.
With a strong pipeline of nationally significant infrastructure and development projects across Ireland, this is an excellent opportunity to lead, shape, and influence projects that have a real environmental impact.
The Role: You’ll take a lead role in delivering a wide range of ecology services, particularly in relation to terrestrial and freshwater habitats. The work is varied, and you’ll play a key part in assessments for renewable energy, infrastructure, and development projects – from early-stage feasibility and fieldwork planning through to impact assessment and reporting.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and overseeing ecological surveys (Phase 1 Habitat, NIS, EcIA, etc.)
- Providing technical input and guidance on complex ecological issues
- Coordinating and managing junior ecologists and external surveyors
- Liaising with clients, project teams, and regulatory bodies
- Preparing and reviewing reports including Natura Impact Statements, Ecological Impact Assessments, and species-specific assessments
- Supporting planning and licensing applications under Irish and EU legislation
- Contributing to biodiversity enhancement strategies and nature-based solutions
About You: - A relevant degree in Ecology, Environmental Science or related discipline (postgraduate qualification an advantage)
- Minimum 5+ years’ experience in ecological consultancy or related field
- In-depth knowledge of Irish and EU wildlife legislation, planning policy and ecological best practice
- Proven experience in leading surveys, managing field teams and producing high-quality technical reports
- Full clean driver’s licence (essential)
- Membership of CIEEM or eligible for full membership
Specialist expertise in areas such as bat surveys, ornithology, aquatic ecology or habitat restoration will be particularly welcome.
