We’re looking for a Resident Engineer to oversee a landmark civil and environmental engineering project across two sites in Galway and Mayo. This role offers the opportunity to make a tangible environmental impact while working on complex and rewarding works.
  
About the Project
  
This project focuses on the environmental remediation and restoration of historic landfill sites. Works include:
  • Earthworks and capping systems
  • Drainage and gas collection infrastructure
  • Environmental monitoring and compliance
  • Ensuring EPA-standard restoration for sustainable land reuse
  
Your Role
  
As Resident Engineer, you will act as the on-site representative, responsible for day-to-day supervision, quality assurance, and contract compliance. You’ll ensure that all works are completed to the highest safety, environmental, and technical standards, both on time and within budget.
  
Key Responsibilities
  
  • Oversee and monitor site construction activities to ensure compliance with specifications and regulations.
  • Maintain daily site records, reports, and photographic documentation.
  • Review and approve method statements, inspection/test plans, and quality documentation.
  • Ensure full compliance with health, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Liaise with the project team, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Certify works for payment and manage project documentation.
  • Co-ordinate progress meetings and oversee testing and commissioning of systems.
  
What We’re Looking For
  
Essential:
  • Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering (or equivalent).
  • 5+ years’ experience in civil engineering: ideally in landfill, waste, or environmental remediation.
  • Strong knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and experience with Public Works Contracts.
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills.
  • Full, clean driver’s licence with flexibility to travel between Galway and Mayo sites.
Desirable:
  • Chartered Engineer status (or working toward it).
  • Experience in local authority or EPA-regulated remediation projects.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and GIS.
