Senior Planning Engineer

We are currently recruiting an experienced Project Planner to join a leading civil engineering contractor delivering projects within the energy and infrastructure sector.
  
The role will cover both tender and live project stages, working closely with engineering, commercial and operational teams to develop realistic programmes, monitor delivery and identify potential risks. This would suit someone with strong civils planning experience who is comfortable taking ownership of their workload and working across multidisciplinary project teams.
  
Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain detailed construction programmes for civil engineering and energy projects.
• Prepare resource-loaded programmes and schedules to support project delivery.
• Monitor progress against programme, highlighting delays, risks and areas requiring attention.
• Carry out programme risk analysis and contribute to project risk registers.
• Work closely with Project Managers, Engineers and commercial teams to ensure programmes accurately reflect site requirements.
• Support tender teams by developing bid programmes, construction sequencing and proposed methodologies.
• Prepare planning information and visual programme material for tender submissions and project reviews.
• Attend tender reviews, project handovers and programme meetings, providing clear planning input to the wider team.
• Work alongside estimating and supply chain teams when developing project methodologies, resources and programme outputs.
• Produce regular programme updates and reports for project teams and senior management.
• Support and mentor junior members of the planning/project controls team where required.
• Ensure planning activities take account of Health, Safety and Environmental requirements throughout project delivery.

  
Requirements

• Degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering/construction discipline.
• Minimum 5 years' experience in Planning or Project Controls within the construction or engineering industry.
• Strong experience working on civil engineering projects within the energy sector.
• Experience developing programmes for both tender and live project delivery.
• Good understanding of construction sequencing, resources and project methodologies.
• Strong knowledge of the relationship between planning, commercial and contractual project requirements.
• Proficient in Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project, with good general Microsoft Office skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving ability with excellent attention to detail.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work independently while coordinating with wider project teams.
