We are working with a well-established payroll bureau that is looking to add an experienced Senior Payroll Specialist to its team. This is a role for someone who enjoys the variety of working with multiple clients, is confident managing payrolls independently and takes pride in delivering a service that clients can rely on.

You will be responsible for a portfolio of weekly, fortnightly and monthly payrolls, managing the process from initial instructions through to final submission and payment. Alongside the technical payroll work, you will build strong relationships with clients, provide advice on payroll matters and become a trusted point of contact for their day-to-day requirements.

The role would suit someone who is ready to take the next step in their career, whether that means developing their technical expertise, taking on greater responsibility or becoming more involved in supporting and mentoring colleagues.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Manage a portfolio of client payrolls, ensuring each payroll is processed accurately, efficiently and within agreed deadlines.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a knowledgeable and approachable point of contact.
  • Take responsibility for the full payroll process, from receiving payroll information and processing changes through to final checks, reports and payment files.
  • Deal with a variety of payroll matters, including starters, leavers, tax certificates, BIK, pensions, statutory deductions and payroll adjustments.
  • Provide clients with practical advice and support on payroll queries, helping them navigate more complex issues.
  • Review payroll calculations, reconciliations and reports to ensure accuracy before payrolls are finalised.
  • Keep up to date with Irish payroll legislation and Revenue requirements, ensuring changes are correctly reflected in client payrolls.
  • Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies, using your own judgement and escalating matters where appropriate.
  • Manage multiple payroll cycles and competing deadlines while maintaining a consistently high standard of service.
  • Work closely with the Senior Payroll Manager and wider team on complex client requirements and process improvements.
  • Share your knowledge and provide support to junior members of the payroll team.
  • Contribute to the development of payroll processes, controls and procedures.
  • Handle sensitive client and employee information with the highest level of confidentiality and professionalism.
What We're Looking For
  • 5+ years' experience in payroll, ideally gained within a payroll bureau, accountancy practice or another multi-client environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Irish payroll legislation, including PAYE, PRSI, USC, pensions, BIK and statutory deductions.
  • Experience managing a portfolio of client payrolls independently.
  • Excellent client-facing skills, with the confidence to deal directly with clients and provide clear, practical advice.
  • Strong attention to detail and a genuine commitment to payroll accuracy.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple payroll deadlines and competing priorities.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly when dealing with complex payroll queries.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and experience working with payroll reports and large volumes of data.
  • Experience using Quantum or similar payroll software.
  • The ability to work independently, take ownership and use professional judgement.
  • Experience supporting or mentoring junior payroll staff would be an advantage.
  • IPASS or an equivalent payroll qualification is desirable but not essential.
Why This Role? This is an opportunity to join a professional payroll environment where you will have genuine responsibility for your own client portfolio, while continuing to develop your technical knowledge and career.

You will be joining a team where quality, accuracy and client service are important, and where your experience will be valued. If you enjoy working with clients, solving payroll problems and taking ownership of your work, this could be an excellent next step.
