An established and growing accountancy practice in the Midlands is seeking an experienced
Payroll Manager to lead its payroll function.
This is an excellent opportunity for a payroll professional looking to take ownership of a busy department while working closely with Partners and a diverse portfolio of SME clients.
The successful candidate will oversee the day-to-day running of the payroll department, ensure the accurate and timely processing of client payrolls, manage and develop the payroll team, and drive continuous improvements in payroll processes and client service.
Key Responsibilities - Lead and manage the payroll department, ensuring a high-quality service is delivered to clients.
- Manage, mentor and develop the payroll team, providing technical guidance and support.
- Oversee the accurate and timely processing of weekly, fortnightly, four-weekly and monthly payrolls.
- Review payroll calculations, statutory deductions and final payroll submissions.
- Ensure compliance with Irish payroll legislation, Revenue requirements and employment regulations.
- Process complex payrolls and provide support on technical payroll queries.
- Prepare and submit Revenue Payroll Submissions (RPNs, PSRs and related filings).
- Manage pension deductions, benefit-in-kind reporting, statutory leave payments and other payroll-related obligations.
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients, providing advice and resolving payroll-related queries.
- Develop strong relationships with clients and identify opportunities to enhance payroll services.
- Review and improve payroll processes, controls and efficiencies.
- Ensure payroll software is maintained and utilised effectively.
- Support the Partners with departmental planning, resource allocation and service delivery.
- Keep up to date with legislative and regulatory changes affecting payroll.
- Assist with onboarding new payroll clients and implementing payroll solutions.
Requirements - Minimum 3 years' payroll experience, ideally within an accountancy practice or payroll bureau.
- Previous experience managing or supervising a payroll team.
- Strong knowledge of Irish payroll legislation and Revenue requirements.
- Experience processing multiple client payrolls simultaneously.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication and client relationship management skills.
- Proficient in payroll software and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- IPASS qualification is desirable but not essential.
Desirable Experience - Experience working within an accountancy practice.
- Knowledge of BrightPay, Sage Payroll or other leading payroll software.
- Experience implementing payroll process improvements.
- Exposure to pensions, auto-enrolment and benefit administration.
