Mechanical Engineer

This is a technical, full project lifecycle role for a Mechanical Engineer who wants to own projects from proposal through to installation based in the Galway office. You'll build technical proposals for plant upgrades in explosive atmosphere environments, help win the work, and then see those projects through design and on-site installation. You'll get structured mentorship throughout.

The role starts mainly office-based (Galway), focused on proposals, design and planning, and becomes more site-based once installation begins. After the initial projects, you'll go on to manage a portfolio sites in the South-West area.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare and build technical proposals and tender submissions for plant upgrade projects.
• Carry out site surveys and assess existing plant and systems to define the scope of upgrades.
• Develop mechanical designs and specifications for works in ATEX / explosive atmosphere environments.
• Work on water and wastewater systems and HVAC within pharmaceutical facilities.
• Make sure designs and installations comply with ATEX regulations, hazardous area classifications and relevant standards.
• Once projects are awarded, manage delivery through procurement, installation, commissioning and handover.
• Coordinate installation teams, subcontractors and suppliers on site.
• Liaise directly with clients on technical requirements, progress and close-out.
• Manage project budgets, programmes and documentation across multiple sites.
• Take on management of a multi-site portfolio across the South-West region.

Requirements:

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (Level 7/8).
• 3–4 years' experience preferred. Strong candidates with less experience will be considered.
• Experience preparing technical proposals or tender submissions (essential).
• Knowledge of, or experience in, ATEX / explosive atmosphere environments (highly desirable).
• Experience with water and wastewater systems, HVAC or pharmaceutical facilities preferred.
• Strong technical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to take projects from concept to completion.
• Comfortable splitting time between office and site.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.
• Full Irish driving licence.
