Role Overview
A New York City general contractor is seeking a Project Manager to oversee a portfolio of smaller construction projects, typically ranging from $500K to $1M.

This is an active requirement with a growing contractor that has a strong pipeline of work and the ability to hire quickly for the right candidate. The position would suit someone with general contracting experience who is comfortable managing multiple smaller projects, taking ownership of day-to-day delivery, and staying close to the details from preconstruction through closeout.

This role is ideal for a Project Manager who enjoys fast-moving projects, direct client interaction, subcontractor coordination, and having real responsibility across schedule, budget, quality, and delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage small construction projects from preconstruction through completion.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, consultants, ownership, and client stakeholders.
  • Lead project meetings and maintain strong client-facing relationships.
  • Oversee project schedules, budgets, procurement, buyout, and overall project performance.
  • Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, closeout documentation, and reporting.
  • Work closely with field teams, superintendents, subcontractors, and ownership.
  • Resolve project issues in real time to keep projects moving.
  • Track costs, change orders, billing, and project financial performance.
  • Review drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and project documents.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to a high standard.
  • Drive punch list, closeout, and final handover.
Requirements
  • Project Manager or experienced Assistant Project Manager background with a general contractor.
  • Experience managing small-to-mid-sized construction projects.
  • Comfortable overseeing projects typically ranging from $500K to $1M.
  • Strong understanding of subcontractor coordination, schedules, budgets, and project documentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at different stages simultaneously.
  • Confident handling RFIs, submittals, change orders, procurement, and closeout.
  • Strong communication skills with clients, subcontractors, field teams, and internal stakeholders.
  • Stable work history preferred.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and able to take ownership of projects.
  • Experience across commercial interiors, renovations, retail, hospitality, residential, or mixed-use projects welcomed.
  • Comfortable operating independently in a fast-moving environment.
Project Experience
  • General contracting project experience required.
  • Projects typically range from approximately $500K to $1M.
  • Experience across commercial, interiors, renovation, retail, hospitality, residential, or mixed-use projects desirable.
  • Ability to manage multiple smaller projects or fast-moving scopes simultaneously beneficial.
  • NYC construction experience strongly preferred.

  • Candidates based in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, Long Island, Westchester, New Jersey, or surrounding areas preferred.
