Estimator

Role Overview:
We are supporting a growing NYC general contractor seeking an experienced Estimator to lead the estimating efforts of the business.

This is a key hire and will suit someone who is comfortable taking ownership of bids, pricing, subcontractor coverage, and preconstruction support. The role offers direct exposure to senior leadership and the opportunity to play a central part in how projects are priced, pursued, and secured.

This position would suit an Estimator who is ready to step into a more senior, visible role where they can lead the estimating function rather than simply support it.

Your main duties will include, but not be limited to:

• Lead the estimating process from initial project review through final bid submission.
• Review drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and project documents to develop accurate estimates.
• Prepare detailed takeoffs, budgets, bid packages, and cost breakdowns across multiple trades.
• Solicit, review, and level subcontractor proposals to ensure full scope coverage and competitive pricing.
• Work closely with ownership and project teams to evaluate project opportunities, risks, exclusions, and value engineering options.
• Manage subcontractor relationships and maintain strong market coverage across key trades.
• Support preconstruction efforts including budgeting, scope development, procurement planning, and bid strategy.
• Identify gaps in drawings, scope, or pricing and communicate risks clearly to leadership.
• Maintain organized estimating files, historical cost data, and bid documentation.
• Assist with project handoffs to the operations team once projects are awarded.

To be successful in your application, you will possess the following:

• 5+ years of estimating experience within a general contractor, construction management, or interiors construction environment.
• Strong understanding of the NYC construction market, subcontractor base, and local pricing conditions.
• Experience estimating commercial, interior fit-out, renovation, or general construction projects.
• Ability to lead bids independently from initial review through submission.
• Strong subcontractor communication, scope review, and bid leveling skills.
• Proficiency with estimating software, takeoff tools, Excel, and construction documentation.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify scope gaps, risks, and cost impacts.
• Comfortable working directly with senior leadership and taking ownership of the estimating function.
• Strong communication, organization, and commercial awareness.
